6 Tips For Back to School Shopping

It's that time again ….back to school!

With the start of the new school year quickly approaching it is time to discuss organizing for school. As a professional organizer and a full time grade 1/2 teacher I got you covered!

Today, let's talk about purchasing school supplies. It is important that you go shopping early in order to ensure you get the items you want. Here are some tips on back to school shopping.

  1. Look through the school supplies from last year and see if any can be reused for this year. Common items that can be reused include: scissors, ruler, calculator, and any unused materials.

  2. Get the school supply list from the school and cross off any items you already have.

  3. Get your list and head to your favourite school supply store.

  4. Purchase everything that is on the list including the optional items. Teachers use the optional items such as paints etc. with their class. If you don’t purchase them for your child most often the teacher goes out and purchases them. Common items to buy every year include: writing/colouring materials, workbooks, duotangs, glue etc.

  5. Other items to purchase: tissues, hand sanitizer, backpack, lunch kit, water bottle, and velcro shoes. *Please do NOT purchase shoes with laces unless your child can tie both shoes independently, every time, in under 1 minute. Thank you

  6. Label every item with your child’s first and last name. That way if something falls on the floor or gets lost it is easy to identify whose it is.
