6 Questions Sellers Should Ask Their Realtor

When first meeting with potential clients, I always like to start our appointment by sitting down and learning more about them. By taking the time to chat before turning the conversation to business, I have the opportunity to better understand what their needs are. This in turn allows me insight so I am better prepared to meet their expectations in an agent. For example, some people are very hands on and want to be kept informed on a regular basis, while other clients are inclined to be contacted only when necessary.

Similarly, this initial meeting is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the Realtor! When it comes to selling your home, a good Realtor will not only become your business partner, but they will often become a trusted friend. When choosing your agent, it is imperative to choose wisely. You want to make sure that the person working to sell your home is someone that you see eye-to-eye with. Most importantly, you want to know that you can trust them.

Below I’ve highlighted 6 questions that you should consider asking an agent when meeting them for the first time.

1.Are you a part time or full time Realtor?

I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing more important to me than being able to connect with my agent when needed. Working with a full time Realtor ensures that your agent is always there when you reach out. You want your Realtor working for you, not someone else!

2. Will I be working with you directly, or someone on your team?

You’ve met with the agent, you loved what they offered and felt a good connection with them. The paperwork is signed and then *poof*, they’ve disappeared. How frustrating! Working with an individual agent or with a small team means that you get the personal service and attention that you deserve. The last thing you want is to feel is that you’re just another home to sell.

3. How many clients do you take on at a time?

You deserve personalized service with someone who will look after your needs. If an agent has too many clients to juggle, the time spent on you can be significantly minimized.

4. Have you sold homes in this neighborhood?

Working with a neighbourhood expert means that you’re getting an agent who understands the nuances of your community. Activity can vary greatly depending on location, so make sure to hire someone who knows your neighbourhood well and can give you the best advice for your market. Plus, we know all the perks of living here and can sell that to potential buyers!

5. Do you have any referrals?

Referrals are a great way to learn more about your Realtor. Most agents will have referrals on Google and/or on their websites, so make sure to check those out. If you want to contact a referral directly, ask your agent for a list of past clients that you can connect with.

6. How do you plan on Marketing the home?

This is huge. As a regular consumer, it shocks me when I come across listing photos that have clearly been taken by the agent themselves. As a Realtor, this is beyond unacceptable.  Marketing is the first impression that your home makes to potential buyers and it is imperative to have professional content to showcase your home. NEVER settle for an agent who tells you their iphone is sufficient. Let’s get your home ready for the spotlight with professionals who know how to showcase your home correctly!

Remember, the initial meeting with a potential agent is the perfect opportunity to learn more about what they will do to support YOU through the sale of your home. Happy selling!
